I’ve learned that it’s a lot more fun to be yourself than it is to prove yourself.
Proving yourself is an endless exercise of posturing. It’s an invitation to be someone you’re not. It’s pretending you’ve got it all together and measuring yourself against everyone else. It’s trying to look better than you are, worrying about where you stand in the pecking order and constantly manicuring the life you’re trying to make everyone think you live.
It is exhausting.
Being yourself is just the opposite.
It’s messy.
It’s imperfect.
It’s surprising.
It’s admitting there are days full of great joy and days full of great sadness, sometimes in the very same week.
Each morning the day offers you the same choice it offers me.
Be yourself or prove yourself.
Choose wisely.
