hustle

I hate traffic.

Years ago I commuted 2 hours a day to and from work. It was a miserable experience.

The toll roads in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area reach a max speed of 7mph during rush hour and were sadly the fastest route to and from the office for me.

For the past 4 years I’ve purposefully worked less than 5 miles from my house, primarily to avoid the chaos that is the morning and afternoon commute.

I’ve been my own boss and I vowed to never sit in that traffic again.

But now, I get to work on building my dream from a new location. I’ve got a new job that allows me to focus on building my dream job without going broke and it is awesome!

The downside?

I’m back to that dreaded commute. 6:15am-7:00am and 4:30pm-6:00pm. Every. Day. Of. The. Week.

But now, instead of dreading my drive, that’s hustle time.

When I get home in the evenings I want to be with my family. I get to work early so I can write and so I can avoid some traffic. But when I drive, I’m just listening to the radio.

So I’ve decided to make the most of my commute to the day job by working on my dream job.

I have 10 hours a week with no distractions from work, computers, family, or anything else. That’s 10 hours a week that I can help people with their money by doing financial coaching sessions over the phone.

I’m 6 weeks into doing this and it’s been awesome. People have been able to ask me questions about their financial situation and I’m able to answer them while I keep my mind off the fact that snails can crawl faster down the highways than I can drive them.

I’ve commuted for years but this is the first time I really noticed that big chunk of time I was wasting. Hustle time is funny that way. It often hides in plain sight.

Where do you find the extra time to hustle on your dreams? Tell us about it in the comments.
